N.W and Regional Delegation of Youth Affairs and Civic Education promote Peace and Social Cohesion.

The one day capacity building workshop started with a word of welcome by the Regional delegate for youth Affairs and Civic Education Mr Nempa Bonaventure who expressed gratitude for UYO to have such activity during the youth week. On the menu was presentations and discussion on the theme of the Youth day of 11th February 2021 which is; Youth Resilience, challenges and opportunities in times of Covid-19. Melvin Songwe Shuye moderated the session which had as sub themes;

  • Youths as actors in the fight against Covid –19 19
  • Youth and Peace: Break the silence and take action against Covid-19
  • Youth resilience through entrepreneurship against covid-19

 

 

Melvin Songwe in his opening presentation did presentation on youths as actors in the fight against Covid-19. He spoke on the challenges of most youths acknowledging the spread of the pandemic, gave more barrier measures and new phase of the disease and more insides on the role of youths in the continuous fight against the pandemic. Melvin also gave opportunity for experience sharing by some the youth leaders on how they fight against the pandemic.

Second presenter was Akwo Kelvin who was focus on youth and peace: break the resilience and take action against Covid-19. He used an interactive approach on conflict management, role of youths in peace building, coping with pandemic and youths as instruments for peace. The last presenter Delphine Asangwe presented on youth resilience through entrepreneurship against the disease. She said, despite all the challenges, there are many opportunities which youths needs to rise and take action. She went further to site some opportunities amidst the crisis and called on the youths to embrace odds while respecting the barrier measures in the continuous fight against the pandemic. In his closing remark, Melvin Songwe did thank all participants, reminded all of the purpose of the workshop being efforts to strengthen knowledge and opportunity for youths in times of double crisis – Covid -19  and socio political affairs,  the Regional Delegate appreciated all participants and wish all a safe journey to various destination.
